HE&R Celebrates Earth Day 2024
Recycling and Conservation in The Sweetest Place on Earth
Today we celebrate Earth, our home. Although Earth Day is held only once a year, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) team members recognize the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling daily. HE&R continuously works with our guests, suppliers and community partners on ways to reduce our environmental footprint. We are proud of our team members and their efforts to invest in our planet!
Through HE&R's efforts, in 2023, the company conserved the following resources:
RECYCLING NUMBERS:
- 37.6 tons of glass
- 107.4 tons of paper
- 10.7 tons of plastic
- 10.7 tons of aluminum
- 322.3 tons of cardboard
- 381 lbs of soap bars and plastic bottles from The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Lodge donated to Clean the World
- 10,173 gallons of used cooking oil recycled from Hershey Lodge
- 10,680 gallons of used cooking oil recycled from Hersheypark Entertainment Complex
- 13,604 lbs of used cooking oil recycled from Devon Seafood + Steak and Houlihan's Restaurant + Bar
CONSERVATION NUMBERS:
- 6, 446 mature trees conserved: enough to produce 79,862,986 sheets of newspaper
- 779,196 kW-hrs of electricity conserved: enough to power 74 homes for an entire year
- 3,008,002 gallons of water conserved: enough to meet the fresh water needs of 40,106 people for a year
- 1,743 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent: preventing greenhouse gas emissions
- 1,743 cubic yards of landfill space: enough airspace to meet the disposal needs of 2,268 people
