HERSHEY GARDENS- TIPS BEFORE YOU VISIT
This post originally appeared on ATURTLESLIFEFORME.COM
The Hershey Gardens in Hershey, PA is a gorgeous place to visit while you’re in Central PA! With a butterfly atrium, children’s garden, rose gardens and more, it’s a fun, interactive experience for the whole family!
With Hersheypark, Chocolate World, Hershey resorts, concerts and more, there is no shortage of things to do in Hershey, PA! But one of the lesser known attractions is quickly becoming one of my favorites… the Hershey Gardens!
Situated on top of a hill, it’s got a stunning view of Hersheypark and downtown Hershey. It actually takes me a few minutes to enter the building because I’m too busy taking in the view when I first arrive!
But plan on spending about 2-3 hours at the Hershey Gardens because there’s so much to see and do!
BUTTERFLY ATRIUM AT THE HERSHEY GARDENS
The Butterfly Atrium is located inside the main building at the Hershey Gardens and mimics a tropical plant environment. Which means it’s the perfect environment for butterflies from all over the world!
When you step inside, you’re greeted immediately by butterflies swarming all around you! Be careful where you walk because they like to land on the ground, and sometimes on you as well! There are lush trees and plants, a water feature and plenty of exhibits that explain and display the lifespan of a butterfly!
Hershey is one of only 25 indoor, tropical butterfly gardens in the entire country so it’s worth a stop when you’re in town!
Pro tip: The Butterfly Atrium is handicap accessible however you cannot bring strollers inside. Strollers are permitted elsewhere at Hershey Gardens, but not inside the butterfly house.
HERSHEY ROSE GARDENS
Once you step outside the back door of the main building, you are the beginning of 23 acres of breathtaking roses, other flowers, trees and exhibits. Milton Hershey requested his workers to “create a nice garden of roses” and it has been a bright spot in the town for more than 80 years now.
There are more than 3500 roses in the historical section of the garden including award-winning varieties.
It really is spectacular even for someone like me who isn’t really a “plant person”! I walk around just exclaiming and wishing I had worn a flowy, summery dress so I could get some photos!
