HE&R Celebrates World Environment Day, Every Day

Check out how Hershey The Sweetest Place On Earth helps our planet stay clean!

Summary

In honor of World Environment Day, we wanted to share with you some of the successful steps we take to help reduce our footprint. All of the statistics are from 2016.

Fun facts:

  • While we love The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, it uses a lot of water! Year-over-year, we have decreased water usage by 8%. That is enough to fill over 15 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

  • We recycled over 6,500 pounds of food waste… wondering who benefits? The animals who call ZooAmerica home.

  • As the car industry advances, so does our energy-saving technology. At our resorts, The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Lodge, we installed electric car-sharing stations. If you have an electric car, you can use them for FREE!

  • 60,000 bees call Hershey Lodge home (in a remote location, of course). The bees help pollinate surrounding plants and increase the declining bee population. Not to mention, fresh honey!

  • In 1937, Milton Hershey founded the first recycling center in Hershey, PA.

The steps to helping our environment start with awareness and education. Over 16,000 of our guests (that’s you!) were a part of on-site educational opportunities, whether it was through camps, classes, programs or tours. If you are curious for more information on our strong steps toward helping the environment, check out our most recent Corporate Social Responsibility Report. Thank you for helping us help the Earth!
