About Veterans Day
In 1954, President Eisenhower issued the Veterans Day Proclamation designating November 11 as Veterans Day. To celebrate Veterans Day, President Eisenhower asked that all citizens “…solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate our- selves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.”
Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11 because a cease-fire between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, ending World War 1 on November 11, 1918.
MAV: Military & Veterans at HE&R
The 2023 theme of Veterans Day is ‘service.’ As a company, we thank our team members who have valiantly served our country. This summer, we proudly welcomed our seventh employee resource group, MAV: Military & Veterans, a unit within Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) committed to supporting and recognizing US Service Members, Veterans, and supporters through community connections and workforce opportunities. MAV hosted its kickoff event in July, participated in the 12th annual March for the Fallen run/walk in September, is sharing season’s greetings with the Holidays for Heroes Red Cross initiative, and will participate in the Hometown Heroes Hershey Bears game as flag bearers on Saturday, December 9.
