HE&R Celebrates Global Diversity Awareness Month 2023

October is Global Diversity Awareness Month

In celebration of Global Diversity Awareness Month, this email was sent to Hershey Entertainment & Resorts team members. 

Today marks the start of Global Diversity Awareness Month, and it is your invitation to become a ‘citizen of the world!’ This month, challenge yourself to try a new cuisine, listen to music from another country, or learn about a different culture. To help kickstart your adventure, culinary teams at The Hotel Hershey, Hersheypark and Hershey Lodge have created menus featuring global cuisine for each Friday during the month of October.

Training and Engagement

Throughout this year, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) has celebrated diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) through education, awareness and events:

  • We launched a new training opportunity, Embracing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Part 2: Becoming An Ally.
  • This summer, we welcomed our seventh Employee Resource Group (ERG), MAV - Military and Veterans.
  • Best-selling author and workplace change expert Shola Richards led listening sessions and delivered a keynote presentation to our Managers Group and ERG members. 
  • Our seven ERGs conducted five podcast discussions on relevant, important topics and held six connections events, with more planned for the duration of the year. 

Community Participation

We started the year by giving back with our annual Day of Service. Dozens of team members volunteered at three local organizations. HE&R continued its community involvement by participating in the Race Against Racism, 321 For Life World Down Syndrome Day event, March for the Fallen 5k, PRIDE Month events including The Hershey Company Stacks Lighting, Lancaster Pride and Hershey Pride, and so much more. 


More than 25 emails were shared celebrating theme days and months such as Martin Luther King Day, International Women’s Day and Mental Health Awareness Month plus monthly engagement opportunities with Milton Hershey School (MHS) and ongoing DE&I updates and opportunities for involvement. We heard directly from our team members on what their heritage means to them:

Although we have come far, there is still more work to do. We challenge all of you to get involved in company events, and community organizations and have meaningful conversations at home with family and friends. Offer ideas and suggestions, learn about different cultures, and participate in podcasts and training opportunities. Speak with your supervisor on ways you can get involved.
