Celebrate National Golf Month at premier golf and recreation club in Hershey
To honor National Golf Month this August, Hershey Country Club (HCC) is celebrating in true tradition. Take a nostalgic walk with us and discover these historic treasures scattered throughout our premier golf and recreation club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Former HCC Caddy Shack and Derry Church School
Positioned along the pathway to Hole 4 West is the historic Derry Church School building. This one-room schoolhouse, which Milton S. Hershey attended briefly during his childhood, was later adapted by the Club as its Caddy House between 1930 and 1940.
Curling Stone Logo
A showcase of our iconic curling stone logo is on display in the Traditions foyer. Dating back to the 1960s and 1970s, this logo originates from the era when the lower level of the Clubhouse featured a curling rink. Even though the logo has since been retired, it continues to be featured prominently on merchandise in the Golf Shop, member golf tournaments, and tee gifts.
Jay Weitzel Clock
The Club honored former HCC Golf Professional Jay Weitzel in June 2025 by dedicating a clock to him. Under his leadership, women's and junior golf became prominent in the Hershey area, the East Course was developed, and the clubhouse was relocated to Derry Road. Serving as a lasting representation of his notable impact, this clock is situated on Hole 18 of both the East and West Courses, making it impossible to overlook as you complete your round.
PGA Championship Plaque
During the 1940 PGA Championship, held at Hershey Country Club from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2, Byron Nelson secured his very first PGA Championship title. In a 36-hole final that came down to the wire, Nelson narrowly defeated Sam Snead 1 up. This historic match concluded on what is now the par-3 12th hole of the West Golf Course.
Wanamaker Trophy Replica
Located in the Golf Shop is a 90 percent replica of the infamous Wanamaker Trophy, serving as a reminder of the historic day when Byron Nelson won the same trophy 84 years ago. A photo of Milton S. Hershey with the trophy during the 1940 PGA Championship is shown below.
High Point Mansion
High Point Mansion, the shared home of Milton S. Hershey and his wife, Catherine, stands as the most notable landmark at the Club. The lower level of this historic residence functioned as the Clubhouse until 1970. Today, the mansion is situated directly between the green on Hole 5 and the tee box on Hole 6 West.
Chocolate Factory Smokestacks
When the town’s first 9-hole course opened in 1909, the old chocolate factory smokestacks were the first sight to see when stepping onto the tee box for Hole 1. Now, you can find these historic smokestacks alongside the sweet views on Hole 6 West.
Milton Hershey Bench
You can spot numerous benches scattered across both the East and West Courses, including one dedicated to Milton S. Hershey, which is nestled right by the Hole 5 West tee box.
