The Bloom of Hersheypark is Just Around the Corner!

SITP.FerrisWheel

After a long, snowy winter, most people are really eager to get outside and start working in their yard or flower beds. It just feels so good seeing those new flowers bloom.

It’s the same way at Hersheypark, but there is one very big difference - the number of plants.

For the 2016 Springtime in the Park seasonal event, 63,000 assorted pansies will be planted! WOW!

There are eight people on the planting team which means each one of those people is responsible for digging into the ground and lovingly placing 7,875 pansies into the earth.

That’s just a very small part of what happens at the Park to prepare for the April 2 opening. This year, Hersheypark will welcome Spring on April 2 and 3 and 9 and 10 for Springtime in the Park. (http://www.hersheypark.com/seasons/springtime.php)

Since the beginning of November, approximately 175 Hersheypark ride maintenance employees have been working inside to perform winter ride maintenance on the Park’s more than 70 rides and attractions. All of the rides, from coasters to kiddie rides, undergo their annual winter overhaul, according to the manufacturers’ specifications.

As April 2 nears, the Maintenance team begins to move out into the 110-acre Park and place the rides back on their tracks. Electricians, painters, carpenters, plumbers, and mechanics have their assigned duties.

Inside the Park, repairs are completed, as needed. Asphalt is repaved and buildings are repainted. All the water and sewer lines are checked and the tracks of each wooden coaster are inspected.

Food and retail stands are prepared for guests and the games are stocked with plush and prizes, ready for the first winners.

March is an exciting time of year at Hersheypark. The Team is anxious to get outside and get moving toward opening day, the day they all consider the best day of the year!
