Get crafty with the perfect chocolate-infused immersive event! Treat your loved one to a special “Truffles for Couples” Chocolate Lab class at The Hershey Story on Feb. 13 and 14,  with evening classes being offered from 5:45 to 7 p.m. and 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. Begin the experience tasting single-origin warm drinking chocolates from around the world, followed by a special one-hour Chocolate Lab class where you'll have the chance to hand-roll and decorate traditional dark chocolate ganache truffles. 

Each guest will package their delicious truffles into a charming box and receive a personalized milk chocolate bar and long-stemmed rose to take home. Participants will enjoy learning about the courtship and marriage of Milton and Catherine Hershey, as well as the process of growing and processing chocolate during their interactive chocolate-making session. Space for the event is limited, and tickets must be purchased in advance. Please note that tickets are non-refundable. This class is most suitable for adults. Up to two couples will be assigned to the same table.

Chocolate Tastings at The Hershey Story

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a flight of warm drinking chocolates from around the world! At The Hershey Story, guests can hone their skills as a cocoa connoisseur - from fruity African chocolate flavors to Indonesian chocolate with caramel overtones. Chocolate Tastings are the perfect way to immerse yourself in the sweet world that inspired Milton Hershey. 

Chocolate Tastings take place each day, though hours will vary based on the time of year. Timed tickets can be purchased at The Hershey Story Admissions desk on the day of your visit. Please note that all tastings are non-alcoholic.

Chocolate Lab Classes at The Hershey Story

Get crafty with the perfect chocolate-infused immersive event! Treat your loved one to a special “Truffles for Couples” Chocolate Lab class at The Hershey Story on Feb. 14 and 15,  with evening classes being offered from 5:45-7 p.m. and 7:45-9 p.m. Begin the experience tasting single-origin warm drinking chocolates from around the world, followed by a special one-hour Chocolate Lab class where you'll have the chance to hand-roll and decorate traditional dark chocolate ganache truffles. 

Each guest will package their delicious truffles into a charming box and receive a personalized milk chocolate bar and long-stemmed rose to take home. Participants will enjoy learning about the courtship and marriage of Milton and Catherine Hershey, as well as how chocolate is grown and processed during their interactive chocolate-making session. Space for the event is limited, and tickets must be purchased in advance. Please note that tickets are non-refundable. This class is most suitable for adults. Up to two couples will be assigned to the same table.

Treat your loved one to a special “Truffles for Couples” Chocolate Lab class at The Hershey Story on Feb. 9 and 10,  with evening classes being offered from 5:45-7 p.m. and 7:45-9 p.m. Begin the experience tasting single-origin warm drinking chocolates from around the world, followed by a special one-hour Chocolate Lab class where you'll have the chance to hand-roll and decorate traditional dark chocolate ganache truffles. 

Each guest will package their delicious truffles into a charming box and receive a personalized milk chocolate bar and long-stemmed rose to take home. Participants will enjoy learning about the courtship and marriage of Milton and Catherine Hershey, as well as how chocolate is grown and processed during their interactive chocolate-making session. It wouldn't be Valentine's Day without some chocolate tasting! You can sample flights of warm drinking chocolates from around the world at The Hershey Story on weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in February. 

Daytime Chocolate Lab Classes

The Hershey Bears retake the ice for their 84th season this month! Although the full season doesn't get underway until NEXT weekend, you can still catch some pre-season action! HERSHEY GARDENS

Hershey Gardens is a 23-acre walk-through botanical display garden that offers 11 themed gardens and a Children’s Garden with chocolate-scented, named and colored flora. During your visit, be sure to check out the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory, which includes a year-round indoor tropical Butterfly Atrium featuring 600 butterflies from around the world. The atrium is one of only 25 year-round indoor tropical butterfly atriums in the U.S.

THE HERSHEY STORY MUSEUM

At The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue, you can learn all about the life and legacy of our founder Milton S. Hershey, the town he created, and the lives he touched. Additional paid experiences are also available, including the Chocolate Lab, where you can try your hand at chocolate pouring and decorating.

Pumpkin Glow will feature more than 100 carved and painted pumpkins, in addition to fall displays of gourds, hay bales and ornamental grasses. The popular “Glow House” also returns, featuring jack-o-lanterns, black lights and glowing creatures. Jack-o-lanterns featured in the Glow House are being carved by culinary arts students from Lancaster County Career and Technology Center and Lebanon County Career and Technology Center. Food trucks and entertainment are also part of the seasonal event.

On Saturday, Oct. 23 and 30, celebrity pumpkin carver Danny Kissel will be at Pumpkin Glow, carving pumpkins and demonstrating his carving techniques. Last fall Kissel, a self-taught carver known for his intricately carved, over-the-top pumpkin sculptures, won “Outrageous Pumpkin Champion” on Food Network’s “Outrageous Pumpkins.” The central Pennsylvanian was also featured on Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” in 2014 and 2017.

ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park, a walk-through Zoo in Hershey, Pa., is open daily this month with Creatures Of The Night making its sweet return from 6-8 p.m. on the same nights as Hersheypark In The Dark. This is the only time of year ZooAmerica is open after dark, so guests of all ages are encouraged to bring a flashlight for an exploration into the nighttime habits of the nocturnal North American animals. Indoor locations at ZooAmerica will remain closed during the event. 

Creatures Of The Night is included in admission to Hersheypark In The Dark when entered from within Hersheypark. Separate admission is also available at the Zoo’s off-street entrance.

In 1909, Milton and Catherine "Kitty" Hershey, founded Milton Hershey School (MHS) with the hopes of helping at least 100 kids in need. Spend the Fourth of July Weekend at Hersheypark

Hersheypark is open on July 4th weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Summer tickets include three parks in one with dozens of rides and coasters, The Boardwalk At Hersheypark water park with one million gallons of water (open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park when entered accessing the zoo through the Hersheypark bridge during public operating hours.

Included with admission, guests can also enjoy new entertainment offerings such as enhanced Hershey Character interactive experiences and photo “Sweet Greets” in new locations throughout the Park, as well as Our Friends from the Sea shows in the Aquatheatre featuring two new seal pups. 

Those looking for a bite to eat can visit The Chocolatier, the all-new, full-service restaurant, bar and patio open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. inside Hershey's Chocolatetown or purchase tickets to the Star Spangled Picnic, a special all-you-care-to-eat picnic in Fahrenheit Catering, on July 3 and 4 at select times. The picnic menu includes a delicious spread of ribs, hot dogs, grilled BBQ chicken breast, loaded baked potato salad, macaroni and cheese, grilled corn on the cob, Kiss berry salad, sliced watermelon, patriotic berry brownie and ice cream novelties. The cost is $18.50 for ages 3+ and tickets can be purchased online in advance.

Sip your cocktails inside at The Carrousel Bar, inspired by one of the most-storied Hersheypark attractions, the 102-year-old Carrousel. Or, cheers to National Martini Day outside on a second-story patio and bar, which provides one-of-a-kind views of Hersheypark including Candymonium, the Carrousel and Kisses Fountain.

For it’s not every year that the inside of the house is decorated, but this year’s theme – Santa’s Candy Shoppe and Mrs. Claus’ Bakery – deserved a few extra special touches. And so in addition to the detailed exterior, the team of decorators also meticulously laid a KIT KAT tile floor, installed a HERSHEY’S Cookies ‘n Crème ceiling, and built a tiny candy dollhouse for in the window.

• 47 types of sweet building materials
• But most importantly: $10 for every hour that is worked – and there were 522 this year – donated to Children’s Miracle Network

Creatures of the Night at ZooAmerica

ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park, a walk-through Zoo in Hershey, Pa., is open daily with Creatures Of The Night making its sweet return from 6-8 p.m. on the same nights as Hersheypark In The Dark. This is the only time of year ZooAmerica is open after dark, so guests of all ages are encouraged to bring a flashlight for an exploration into the nighttime habits of the nocturnal North American animals. Indoor locations at ZooAmerica will remain closed during the event.

Creatures Of The Night is included in admission to Hersheypark In The Dark when entered from within Hersheypark. Separate admission is also available at the Zoo’s off-street entrance.

Pumpkin Glow at Hershey Gardens

Pumpkin Glow, Hershey Gardens’ most popular event, returns for another year of Halloween fun! The family-friendly, non-scary event will be held on Oct. 31, and Nov. 1, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s Pumpkin Glow is during the daytime, but the GLOW must go on! Join us inside the new “Glow House” to get your glow on with family-friendly jack-o-lanterns and other glowing Halloween-themed items. Outside, more than 100 carved and painted pumpkins will be on display, in addition to displays of gourds, hay bales and ornamental grasses.

The Hotel Hershey

Earlier this year The Hotel Hershey welcomed Chef's Market, an all-day café featuring an array of tasty offerings for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack time. On a daily basis, Chef Cher and her team of talented pastry chefs create masterpieces that are showcased at Chef's Market. From chocolatey treats, handmade gelato (yes, handmade onsite at The Hotel!), carrot cake slices, cupcakes, cookies and so much more, it's a feast for the eyes.

Born to Henry and Fanny Hershey in Derry Church, PA, Milton Hershey was believed to have had a fourth-grade level of education. With an interest in candy-making, young Milton became an apprentice at the age of 14 in Lancaster, PA. After two failed attempts at making candy in Philadelphia and New York, he returned to Central Pennsylvania and successfully opened the Lancaster Caramel Co. in 1886.

Inspired by the innovation he witnessed at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, Mr. Hershey became fascinated with making milk chocolate for the masses - not just as a delicacy reserved for the wealthy. In 1900, Mr. Hershey sold the Lancaster Caramel Co. company for $1 million and turned his focus to making chocolate bars. After the development of a successful formula, Mr. Hershey began to build a factory in Derry Church. With its proximity to farms, Hershey could easily access the fresh milk he needed to produce his chocolate. Shortly thereafter, he began to build what would become the world’s largest chocolate-manufacturing plant, which opened as Hershey Chocolate Company in 1905. 

In the midst of building his businesses, Mr. Hershey met the woman who would become his wife. Catherine often referred to as Kitty, and Milton were married in New York City in 1898. As his company grew, Hershey chose to build a model community where his employees could happily live, work, and play. That town was later named Hershey in honor of its founder.

The Hersheys enjoyed global travel and wonderful experiences, but it was their philanthropic acts that are their greatest legacy. Unable to have children of their own, Milton and Kitty open Hershey Industrial School (now known as Milton Hershey School) in 1909, leaving their entire fortune to ensure it would continue serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade from income-eligible families long after they were gone. Today, the School educates, nurtures, houses more than 2,150 students and boasts 10,000+ alumni.

Mr. Hershey’s legacy is omnipresent across our ‘sweet’ destination 163 years after his birth with13 buildings, cultural or educational institutions proudly bearing his name today, including:

We celebrated the treat that makes our town so sweet all month long, but Saturday marks the last day of our 16th annual Chocolate-Covered February! 

• ZooAmerica surprises its animals with a fun chocolate-themed animal enrichment activity.
• The Hershey Story Museum has special Chocolate Lab classes including "The Heart of Chocolate," "Try It With Truffles" and "Berry Lovely Bar."
• Hershey's Chocolate World has a chocolate sculpture on display plus a parade and chocolate-inspired tastings.
• Devon Seafood + Steak in downtown Hershey has a special three-course chocolate-inspired prix fixe menu.

Cheer on the home team

The Hershey Bears are having a show-stopping season. They're currently in first place in the Atlantic Division and second in the Eastern Conference. Gabby, Olympia and Harmony retired from the tour ride in 2016, so welcoming this beloved group back after four years was a special challenge for Pennsylvania-based food artists Jim Victor and Marie Pelton. It’s the first time they had three unique personalities to capture within the 6-foot sculpture. And, unlike the prior three years’ models (Hershey’s Character, Milton Hershey, and Reese’s Character), the texture had to capture that of a soft, plush toy!

The sculpture will be on display through March 1, so come meet the girls in person while you can! Other sweet experiences include Chocolate-Covered February parades and the all-new Chocolate Tasting Experience. Plus, the month-long celebration also continues throughout the town of Hershey.

“Truffles for Couples: Introducing Ruby Chocolate” begins with a delectable tasting experience of single-source warm drinking chocolates from around the world. Participants will then enter the lab, where the truffle-making begins. They’ll hand-roll both ruby and traditional dark chocolate ganache, coat them in milk or white chocolate, finish with toppings then package their scrumptious delights in a decorative box. They’ll also receive a heart-shaped candy bar and a long-stemmed red rose. Guests who partake in Truffles for Couples will also learn about the courtship and marriage of Milton and Catherine Hershey.

Learning more about ruby chocolate is also incorporated into this year’s classes. Touted as the “4th chocolate,” behind white, milk and dark chocolates, ruby chocolate is unique in color and in flavor. Launched in September 2017 and introduced in the US in 2018, it offers a totally new taste experience, which is not bitter, milky or sweet, but a blend of berry or lemony fruitiness mixed with luscious smoothness.

A Chocolate-Covered Love Story

Milton Hershey met Catherine Sweeney in 1897, during a business trip to her hometown, Jamestown, New York. Mr. Hershey stopped at a local soda shop where he saw Catherine socializing with friends. The two were introduced and the rest, as they say, is history. After a year-long courtship, the young working class woman from New York married the successful chocolate-making entrepreneur from Pennsylvania in 1898 in the rectory of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Catherine was 25 and Milton was 40.

Although Mr. Hershey was extremely busy building his chocolate empire, he was deeply devoted to “Kitty,” as he called her, and made time for the two to travel. Their extensive traveling took them to England, France and Egypt. While the trips were primarily for pleasure, their purpose grew to include seeking a cure for an undiagnosed illness from which Kitty was suffering. Sadly, a cure for Kitty’s illness was never found and she died in 1915 at the age of 43.

Milton Hershey never remarried, instead focusing on expanding his chocolate company and developing his model industrial town. As for Milton Hershey’s love of Kitty, the cliché rings true—love never dies. He carried a photograph of Kitty with him until his death in 1945. Throughout his life he gave Kitty much credit. In fact, when Milton Hershey placed his fortune in trust for the newly established residential school for orphan boys, he credited his wife for the plan to create an orphan school. “It was Kitty’s idea,” he would always say when asked about the impulse to establish the school (known today as Milton Hershey School).

Enjoy an evening at Hershey Lodge's newly reimagined restaurant, Revelry Chophouse, Bar & Patio! Opening on Friday, Jan. 17, Revelry (formerly The Forebay) will offer a refreshed dinner menu focused on classic and contemporary chophouse fare with premium cuts and the largest wine and spirits list available throughout the property. Located in the heart of the resort above the main lobby, yet tucked away, Revelry will be the perfect setting for a night out, or, for guests of Hershey Lodge, a night in. Be sure to try one of the restaurant's signature dishes, such as the 34-ounce Tomahawk Ribeye for 2 or the Snake River Farms Wagyu “Eye” of Ribeye, and add some Chocolate Stout Steak Sauce for an extra Hershey's touch. The Hershey Story Museum honors and preserves the life and legacy of Milton S. Hershey, the town he created and the lives he touched. Museum exhibits explore Mr. Hershey's early failures, how he successfully revolutionized the process of making milk chocolate, the "other" model town he built in Cuba and how he and his wife, Kitty, created Milton Hershey School. Today the School stands as the Hersheys' legacy and is the world's largest residential home and school for children in financial and social need.
