HE&R Celebrates Pride Month 2022

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts launches new employee resource group, HUE

To commemorate Pride Month, this email was sent to our team members as part of  Hershey Entertainment & Resorts' celebrations.

June marks the country’s celebration of Pride Month to recognize the influences and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community while striving to raise awareness of issues and challenges facing the community. To kick off Pride Month, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) is thrilled to announce our organization’s newest Employee Resource Group (ERG), HUE - HE&R Unity & Equality!

HUE

HUE is our organization’s sixth ERG. The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Council has worked with members of the HUE committee to define its mission and objectives to support members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies across HE&R.

Pride Month History
In 1978, although Pride Month was not yet recognized, the rainbow flag was first introduced to demonstrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. The most common version has six stripes: red signifies life, orange means healing, yellow represents sunshine, green is nature, blue brings serenity and violet expresses spirit. Years later, President Bill Clinton officially recognized Pride Month in 1999. In 2009, President Barack Obama officially declared June as LGBT Pride Month.

Hershey All Things Diversity
Last month, Hershey All Things Diversity hosted a virtual event, How Adults Can Support LGBTQ+ Youth (the one-hour presentation can be viewed here). The presentation included recommendations on how to speak with LGBTQ+ youth, terminology recommendations and supportive, affirming tactics. This educational series is free and open to the public and is organized and sponsored by Derry Township, HE&R, Downtown Hershey Association, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, The Hershey Company, Milton Hershey School and The Derry Township School District.
