Hershey Gardens Announces September Events

Bug-O-Rama Expands to Include Small Reptiles and Amphibians; Rose Show and Bonsai Exhibit Return

September at Hershey Gardens features a full calendar of family-friendly events. Bug-O-Rama, which has expanded this year to include small reptiles and amphibians, returns, as does an art show and sale, the annual Penn-Jersey District Rose Show and a bonsai exhibit. Following are details on all September events. 

Hershey Area Art Association Show and Sale
Sept. 2 – 4, 2022
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Artists from the Hershey Area Art Association will present “Falling for Art” art show and sale in the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory. Included in admission.

Bug-O-Rama 
Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Families can experience bugs from around the world and learn about their origin and behavior at Hershey Gardens’ sixth annual Bug-O-Rama. In addition to scorpions, tarantulas, millipedes and cockroaches, this year’s event also features small native and exotic reptiles and amphibians, including snakes, lizards, frogs, geckos and more.

Special guests include Ryan the Bug Man with a variety of native and exotic insects, Pennsylvania Bat Rescue with live bats, and Refreshing Mountain Wildlife Center with a Green Tree Python, Blue Tongue Skink and baby American Alligator. The day’s schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Ryan the Bug Man
- Hershey Gardens Zoology Cart
- Face painting
- Games and crafts
- Sarah’s Creamery – selling ice cream treats

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
- PA Bat Rescue with live bats

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Refreshing Mountain Wildlife Center

2 p.m.
- Puppet show  

Bug-O-Rama is included in general admission, which includes entrance to the Butterfly Atrium.

The Annual Penn-Jersey District Rose Show
Saturday, Sept. 17, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 18, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Hershey Gardens will host the Annual Penn-Jersey District Rose Show: “Roses and Chocolate.” Members of the Penn-Jersey District of the American Rose Society will have their roses judged and displayed in Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory. Activities also include seminars and demonstrations. Please visit HersheyGardens.org for a detailed schedule.  

“Bonsai: Living Art of the Susquehanna Bonsai Club”
Sept. 28 – Oct. 15, 2022
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Susquehanna Bonsai Club returns to Hershey Gardens with its annual exhibit. Featuring dozens of bonsai, the display provides information on the ancient Japanese art of bonsai and how bonsai trees are cultivated. Exhibit is located in the Hoop House; included in admission.
