HE&R Wins PRLA Manager of the Year, Excellence in Food Safety Awards

HE&R Wins PRLA Manager of the Year, Excellence in Food Safety Awards

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) has received three Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association (PRLA) awards, including Manager of the Year.

Brian Dailey, General Manager of Downtown Restaurant Group, which includes Houlihan’s Restaurant + Bar, Devon Seafood + Steak and Cocoa Beanery, was selected from a group of four nominees as the PRLA Spirit of Hospitality Manager of the Year. Houlihan’s and Devon restaurants, located at 27 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey, were also named Excellence in Food Safety winners.

Dailey, who has been a member of the HE&R team for 17 years, was honored at the PRLA Awards & Installation Gala Reception & Dinner on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Masonic Temple in downtown Philadelphia. The award honors exemplary professionalism and exceptional service by an employee in a supervisory position at a member hotel, restaurant, destination marketing organization or allied business establishment. Nominees were judged on showing outstanding leadership qualities and consistently adding to the success of their place of employment.

Since joining HE&R, Dailey has made a progressive impact on his employees, restaurants he’s managed and the guests he’s served. He opened two successful restaurants in Hershey -- Houlihan’s and Devon -- in 2006 and 2009, respectively. Since then, Houlihan’s in Hershey has been the most successful Houlihan’s operation with the highest sales year-over-year. However, Dailey’s greatest accomplishment, he said, is watching his team grow and become successful.

“To know that I can play a role in someone else’s life is what makes this all worth it in the end. I never forget that to be a great leader, one has to produce other great leaders. I am proud of my team.”
Brian Dailey, General Manager of the Downtown Restaurant Group

2018 marks the fourth year HE&R has won the Excellence in Food Safety Award. Previous winners within the company include Hershey Lodge in 2017, Giant Center in 2007 and The Hotel Hershey in 2006. The award recognizes facilities that put in extra effort to meet and exceed food safety standards.

To be considered for this award, applicants had to:

  • Be in compliance with food safety regulations

  • Have no significant public health conditions that pose a risk to the consumer

  • Have no confirmed foodborne illnesses

  • Have no enforcement actions taken against them in the past 12 months

  • Have at least one employee who is certified in one of three nationally recognized food safety certification programs

Applicants were also required to show their processes and procedures during a PRLA visit and were judged based on a checklist and grading system.
