HE&R Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2022

This year's theme is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation"

To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, this email was sent to our team members as part of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts' celebrations.

Good morning,

Today begins the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. From September 15 through October 15, 2022, Americans will celebrate the history, contributions and traditions of Hispanics past and present. More than 20 countries are called Hispanic, including Bolivia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru and Spain.

History
The observance of Hispanic Heritage Week began in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson. In 1988, it became a month-long event under the leadership of President Ronald Reagan. The 30-day timeframe is significant due to several independence days celebrated in Hispanic countries, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, El Salvador and Honduras.

2022 Theme
This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme is Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation. According to the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers, it “encourages us to ensure that all voices are represented and welcomed to help build stronger communities and a stronger nation.”

Hispanic Population Growth
The 2020 U.S. Census demonstrates our country’s population is more diverse than ever. The number of people who identified as Hispanic increased to nearly 19% in 2020 versus 16.3% in the 2010 census.

Hispanic cultures continually influence everyday life in America. A growing population makes it even more important to learn about Hispanic history and culture. The National Council for History Education compiled resources to better understand Hispanic heritage.

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts continues to expand its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiative across our organization and community. Currently, we are working with Visit Hershey Harrisburg and Latino Connection on a multi-city tour to increase awareness within the Hispanic community about our area's travel, tourism and employment opportunities. Also, as a partner of Hershey All Things Diversity, our team members are invited to participate in this year’s series of DE&I events that begin on October 20 with “The State of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in our Community: Part 1.” To register, visit this link.

We look forward to celebrating Hispanic culture throughout the month. Stay tuned to @HersheyJobs Instagram for team member spotlights.

Thank you.
