HE&R Celebrates Earth Day 2023

Recycling and Conservation in The Sweetest Place on Earth

Written by: Tricia Hanna

Today we celebrate Earth, our home. Although Earth Day is held only once a year, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R) team members recognize the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling daily. HE&R continuously works with our guests, suppliers and community partners on ways to reduce our environmental footprint. We are proud of our team members and their efforts to invest in our planet!

Through HE&R's efforts, in 2022, the company conserved the following resources:

RECYCLING NUMBERS:

  • 33.3 tons of glass
  • 95.1 tons of paper
  • 9.5 tons of plastic
  • 9.5 tons of aluminum
  • 285.2 tons of cardboard
  • 2,160 lbs of soap bars and plastic bottles from The Hotel Hershey donated to Clean the World
  • 5,778 gallons of used cooking oil recycled from Hershey Lodge

CONSERVATION NUMBERS:

  • 5,704 mature trees conserved: enough to produce 70,675,275 sheets of newspaper
  • 689,555 kW-hrs of electricity conserved: enough to power 66 homes for an entire year
  • 2,661,969 gallons of water conserved: enough to meet the fresh water needs of 35,492 people for a year
  • 1,542 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent: preventing greenhouse gas emissions
  • 1,563 cubic yards of landfill space: enough airspace to meet the disposal needs of 2,007 people
