Enjoy Golf in Hershey, PA this Fall

For many, fall means pumpkin treats, hayrides, Halloween parades, and festive decor, but for some golfers, it is the best time of the year to enjoy a day on the links! With the crisp air, changing leaves, refreshing cooler temperatures, golfers welcome autumn golf outings, tournaments, and events. The greens, fairways, and rough are a little different in the fall with changing weather conditions. We asked one of our Hershey Country Club professionals for a tip.

Here is a special tip from Jeff Batchelor, a Teaching Golf Professional at Hershey Country Club since 2002.

9 Iron Chip

Hello golfers: Thinking you can only chip with your lofted wedges? Guess again...an 8 or 9 iron can be a useful tool around the green if you know how to set it up correctly. These clubs have less loft and you can adjust the golf club face open or closed to change trajectories. Try this simple shot with your 9 iron for any chip shots from the fairway or light rough. Set the ball behind center and grip down an inch. The golf club face should be set barely open with a slight shaft lean toward the flag. As you swing at the ball, try to swish the grass with the sole instead of striking the ground. This simple approach will create low, spinning chips that end up closer to the hole more often.

Thanks, Jeff!

Changing your swing and approach to the elements is not the only thing to consider. With cooler temperatures, you may need to add to your golfing wardrobe. Visit the Hershey Country Club Golf Shop for a wide selection of golf attire for women and men. After all, when you look good on the links, you play better....right?!

If you are not a member of Hershey Country Club, give our 9-hole golf course a try! Spring Creek is a premier golf course - perfect for the family - and is open to the public. If you are a guest of the Official Resorts of Hersheypark, you also have access to our award-winning courses.
