Dark Nights Behind the Haunt: Creature Chaos

Exclusive Details About The Four New Haunted Houses at Hersheypark

Join us at Hersheypark this fall as we introduce our new Dark Nights add-on experience.

Dark Nights is a frightfully immersive haunt experience that spreads its shadows over the Hersheypark landscape every evening during Hersheypark Halloween seasonal event, with three scare zones and four spine-tingling haunted houses. Midways transform from enchanting to unnerving and once-familiar spaces mutate into chilling explorations of the unknown. The only thing more terrifying than the dark is what lurks within it.

Dark Nights at Hersheypark Halloween will run Sept. 17 through Oct. 30, 2022 from 6-11 p.m. on Saturdays (and Fridays starting Oct. 14) and 6-10 p.m. on Sundays.

Behind The Haunt

We’re excited to share our last post of our Behind The Haunt blog series, where we dive deeper into the four spine-tingling haunted houses - Haunted Coal Mine, The Descent, Twisted Darkness and Creature Chaos - as part of integrated thrill experiences guests can only find in Hersheypark. Each haunted house is themed with its own unique story to frighten guests with every visit.

The final house in our Behind The Haunt series is Creature Chaos

Join Professor Darkstone as he pits you against Pennsylvania’s most fearful and deadly creatures. Don’t worry, they’re in their cages…for now.

The Creature Chaos Haunted House is located at the old Hersheypark Amphitheater inside Hersheypark. Guests will find the queue line for Creature Chaos across from sooperdooperLooper in The Hollow near Dispatch Pizzeria and walk on the path adjacent to Spring Creek up to the amphitheater.

Unique Tie to Hershey and Central PA

Pennsylvania, also known as Penn's Woods, has roots dating back to the arrival of the British in the 17th Century. With all the history and thousands of square miles of dark and foreboding forests, it is not surprising that myths, legends and folklore surrounding creatures lurking in those very woods are prevalent in every county. When our design team arrived from Pasadena, California they had already researched a cryptozoological storyline. However, a nighttime visit to our historic amphitheater crystallized the idea of a traveling mythical menagerie curated by an impresario of the Pennsylvania woodlands.

Behind The Clue

As we mentioned in our previous stories, all of the Dark Nights clues were filmed on-site at Hersheypark, including the final clue for Creature Chaos. The clue shows Professor Darkstone on stage with a creature in a cage next to him. This entire scene was shot at the historic Hersheypark Amphitheater where the actual house will be located. Fog machines, creature hands and feet (picked up at our inaugural visit to the Transworld Halloween show in St. Louis)  and a variety of costume embellishments hit the stage after the park closed to forewarn of the chaos that Darkstone may bring with him.

Once again, the clue ended with “Dark Nights are Coming” which hinted at the name of our new haunt experience. Some fans even picked up on the date which flashed on the screen to tease an on-sale date of July 12.

Construction Updates

Construction of scenic elements has been underway since early June which included the creation of the creatures, cages, and Darkstone’s traveling road cases. The scenic elements are starting to be placed around the Creature Chaos house now that the daily Hersheypark operating season has ended and our teams can work on the path throughout the week.

Here is a sneak peek at the construction of the Creature Chaos Haunted House.
