2022 Hershey Bears Teddy Bear Toss Sets New Record

On January 22, 2022, during the 20th GIANT Teddy Bear Toss,  the Hershey Bears hockey club once again established a new world record by collecting 52,341 stuffed toys for local charities! This amount surpasses the club's previous world record of 45,765 collected in 2019.  Due to the pandemic, the 2021 event was held as a drive-thru and saw 31,381 stuffed toys collected.

Following the Bears' first goal, cuddly mayhem ensued and thousands of stuffed toys were thrown onto the ice! Dozens of people assisted with this fan-favorite tradition including numerous team members from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts (HE&R), Children's Miracle Network Hershey (CMN), Hershey Junior Bears, and Penn State Health. Once collected from the ice, the game resumed and the stuffed toys were counted, bagged, and sorted by size by more than 60 volunteers.

As part of the club's Hershey Bears Cares initiative, which showcases the philanthropic activities and volunteer efforts of Bears players and staff members throughout the community, teddy bears and stuffed toys were donated to more than 25 local organizations, including Dauphin County Children and Youth, Vista School, Cocoa Packs, Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg, Palmyra Lions Club, Falcon Packs and Autism Society Greater Harrisburg Area. By surpassing the record, The Sweigart Family Foundation made a donation of $50,000 to benefit CMN.

HE&R and the Hershey Bears hockey club thank the GIANT Company for its support and the best fans in the American Hockey League for their unwavering support of our communities and for putting thousands of smiles on local kids' faces…in the form of stuffed toys!
