Winter Skin Care Tips from the Chocolate Spa

There is no denying it...winter is here! Harsh winter weather can wreak havoc on our hair and skin, leaving it dry, irritated and not at its best. We tapped the experts from The Spa At The Hotel Hershey for tips and product recommendations for how to keep your skin and hair healthy during these long, cold months.

First things first – no matter what, stick to a routine to keep your skin and hair healthy. It is important to have a consistent regimen.

Moisturizing and vitamins are key to keeping your hair, hands, face and body looking and feeling healthy. Exfoliation is important as well.

HAIR

It is important to protect, moisturize and treat your hair.

Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo ($49) and Conditioner ($49) are rich in oils and extracts. They are ultra-hydrating, yet will not weigh down your hair.

Oribe Protecting Balm d’Or ($43) is a heat styling shield and is very important if you are regularly using a blow dryer, flat iron, curling wand/iron or rollers. It is perfect for all hair types, too.

Oribe’s Signature Moisture Masque ($62) is again perfect for all hair types and deep conditions. This product penetrates the cuticle to treat hair, as well as the root. Immediately after shampooing, apply this product and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, or overnight. It is best to use 1-2 times per week.

FACE

Exfoliation, masks, moisturizers and eye care are all equally important when it comes to your face.

To promote skin health and a radiant glow, it is important to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells and impurities. The Sothys Micro Gel Peeling ($36) exfoliates and the Sothys Desquacrem ($34) pulls impurities from the skin, recommended 1-2 times per week.

Day and night creams moisturize and protect your skin. Take advantage of thicker creams at night, allowing your skin to absorb the benefits. Apply sunscreens daily, as the sun’s UVA and UVB rays are harmful all year-round.

Somme offers the Skin Reset night cream ($85), and A-Bomb day cream ($70). Highly concentrated levels of Vitamins A and E make the A-Bomb an intensive facial moisturizer.

Sothys offers the Hydravance Comfort Hydrating Cream ($69), which helps to protect the skin from external pollutants and damaging free radicals.

Along with daily/nightly moisturizing, it is important to use a treatment mask 1-2 times per week, after exfoliating the skin. The Sothys Hydra-moisturizing Mask restores suppleness and promotes radiance.

HANDS/BODY

Just like your face, it is important to exfoliate your hands and body, treat with vitamins and moisturize.

Exfoliate your hands and body 1-2 times per week. Spa Ritual Infinitely Loving Sugar Scrub ($40) and Body Butter ($49) are vegan products that remove dead skin, hydrate with nourishing oils and lock in moisture. By exfoliating before moisturizing, you allow the cream to deeply penetrate your newly revealed skin.

ESPA offers the Smooth & Firm Body Butter ($90), which is packed with essential oils to firm, smooth, enhance elasticity and help diminish the appearance of stretch marks.

ESPA’s Optimal Body Tri Serum ($75) is another opportunity to infuse the skin with nourishing vitamins. It helps even skin tone and pigmentation, soothes and calms, and boosts firming collagen.

Your hands are most affected by the elements during the winter months, and as a result need extra hydration. Using hand cream throughout the day is very important. Step it up and exfoliate before bed, then use a nourishing hand cream and let your skin absorb the ingredients throughout the night. We highly recommend Sothys Velvet Hand Cream ($24).

All the products mentioned in this post are available at The Spa At The Hotel Hershey. Above all, be sure to use products packed with vitamins, oils and rich moisturizers. We could be in for a harsh winter, and your skin is important! It’s the largest organ of your body and supports the life of all other body parts, and plays a role in maintaining the immune system. Your hair protects your body too, in keeping your head warm*.
